Four young archeology students are traveling to the ancient planet of [[Dantooine]] with [[Professor D'Hu'Med]] for a dig. While they arrive and set up camp [[Mal Staranthem]] knocks on the door of the ancient temple that they are there to study, and the door opens. The students and their professor enter the temple but the door closes behind them all. As they explore, before long all of them start experiencing strange phenomena, and are separated throughout the temple. Alone, each of them has a strange encounter, and receives a mysterious crystal. Once they return from their experience, they find one another, and return to the temple's atrium just as the Professor is able to open the door. However, it is at this moment that the Professor is shot in the head by someone outside, much to the surprise and terror of the four students. <br />

The four students discover that their teacher is dead, shot by [[Jacob Everrunner]] on behalf of the remnants of Imperial government. The ISB agent claims that their teacher was a spy and that if the students come out they will not be harmed. Not willing to take that chance, Ishilu forces the door closed again, and the four flee into the temple, despite Mal's suggestion to at least hear the agent out. As the Imperials try to bust down the door, the students find their way up to the top of the temple. As the girls discuss strategy, Mal takes action, leaping down the side of the temple with the assistance of some vines. While Mal watches the Imperials, Ishilu constructs a device with the help of the vines to let the other three rappel downward. With assistance from Lexi's newly found force abilities, the four make a mad dash to their ship, which to their surprise is already warmed up to go. <br />

On the ship, they discover the pilot droid to be sentient, and a friend of their professor's, who was in fact, a spy. They lift off with the droid's help and, once Mal finds the hidden weapons, engage in a short dogfight with the imperial forces as It'klah works for them to make the jump to hyperspace. Lexi whips up something special for Ishilu who takes out a number of tie fighters in a manic frenzy. After making the leap to hyperspace they find themselves on a [[Unnamed forest moon|nameless forest moon.]]<br />

On the forest moon, Ishilu goes to remove the tracking bolt that the Imperials hit them with, taking Mal with her for protection. This is fortunate, when the device unloads a small number of attack droids that they're forced to destroy.<br />

The four students realize that they've all had the same strange vision of an ancient tree with a door beneath it, and that said tree must be somewhere nearby on the moon, and they set off in search of it, Mal leading the way. As they hike, the jungle around them falls silent and they are attacked by a catlike beast with fur blacker than pitch. Mal stands between the beast and the girls, falling into the same type of aggressive trance as in one of his shockball games. After getting an early and devastating blow against the beast, the two of them circle and feint, unable to hit one another. It'klah tries to assist, grabbing her stick and trying to distract the beast so Mal can hit it. She succeeds in attracting its attention, but falls prey to a devastating blow that topples her to the ground. While Lexi administers aid, and Mal and the beast circle, Ishilu takes aim at a dark figure that taunts her from the trees. Hitting her target as she draws on her fear, the figure and the cat both vanish as if they were never there.<br />
